چکیده

We model network formation when heterogeneous nodes enter sequentially and form connections through both random meetings and network-based search, but with type-dependent biases. We show that there is “long-run integration,” whereby the composition of types in sufficiently old nodes’ neighborhoods approaches the global type distribution, provided that the network-based search is unbiased. However, younger nodes’ connections still reflect the biased meetings process. We derive the type-based degree distributions and group-level homophily patterns when there are two types and location-based biases. Finally, we illustrate aspects of the model with an empirical application to data on citations in physics journals. JEL Codes: D85, A14, Z13.

Providing a Link Prediction Model based on Structural and Homophily Similarity in Social Networks

In recent years, with the growing number of online social networks, these networks have become one of the best markets for advertising and commerce, so studying these networks is very important. Most online social networks are growing and changing with new communications (new edges). Forecasting new edges in online social networks can give us a better understanding of the growth of these networ...

Personal network integration: transitivity and homophily in strong-tie relations

This article combines studies of transitivity and homophily in an empirical analysis of personal network integration. Using a national sample of individual’s personal networks, the paper reveals that transitivity Ž . explains a majority of cases of network integration with two important caveats: 1 recent work on networks and social structure points to important structural constraints on persona...

The Long-Run Relationship between External Government Debt and Economic Growth in Developing Countries with Upper Middle Income Level (Panel Co-integration Approach)

The relationship between external debt and economic growth is one of the important issues in macroeconomics literature and has been considered in empirical studies. So, in this paper the long-run relationship among external government debt and economic growth in 58 selected developing countries for 1985-2018 by applying a pool mean group method which is suggested by Pesaran & Smith. The main em...

Testing the long run neutrality of money based on the seasonal cointegration theory: The case of Iran

This article uses seasonal integration and co integration techniques to test the hypothesis of neutrality of money, using data from the Iranian economy. Seasonal data for the three variables of money supply, output and prices show that (increase in) money supply and the price level are co integrated at zero frequency, but one does not see such a relationship between (increase in) money supply a...

Impact Of Homophily On Diffusion Dynamics Over Social Networks

The purpose of this study is to find out under what conditions homophily reinforce the diffusions over social networks or undermines them. To realize this aim, formal modeling approach is utilized and an Agent-Based Model is constructed. Afterwards, diffusion of a non-sticky innovation is investigated with the experiments having varying homophily levels in a social network with two distinct kin...
